Jelly Roll Rug

Jump on the bandwagon and learn how to make a Jelly-Roll Rug!  Make it seasonal, make it fancy or pick your fabrics to match your decor.  In this two session class you will learn the ins and outs of Jelly Roll rug making.  Session 1 of the workshop will get you started on making your looonnnnngggggg Jelly Roll strip (for the Oval rug) or individual strips (for the rectangular rug) which you will take away to complete for your next session.  Session 2 gives you direction and ample time to tackle the construction of the rug.  
Supplies Needed (All supplies purchased for the class at Middlebury Sew N Vac will be at a 15% discount) * Jelly-Roll Rug (Oval) OR Jelly-Roll Rug 2 Pattern (Rectangular) For Jelly-Roll Rug: One Jelly Roll, Bali Pop or 40-42 21/2" strips of your own fabric Batting strips - Choose one of these three options: * 1.25 yards of 100% Cotton Batting 96" wide, cut into (40-42) 2 1/4" strips * 2 packages of Bosal Katahdin On-A-Roll 100% Organic Cotton Batting, 2 1/4" x 25 yards * 1 package of Bosal Katahdin On-A-Roll 100% Organic Cotton Batting, 2 1/4" x 50 yards 1 large spool of thread - at least 1200 yards to blend or contrast with your fabrics (I used an Aurifil variegated) For Jelly-Roll Rug 2 (Rectangular Rug): * 1 Jelly Roll, Bali Pop or 40-42 2 1/2" strips of your own fabric * Batting - there are a couple of options: 1 1/3 yards of 100% Cotton Batting 96" wide, cut into (20) 2 1/4" x 96" strips OR (20) 2 1/4" x 40-42" strips of batting cut from batting scraps ❖Required Tool/s for the project Sewing machine in good working order, cleaned and oiled. If your sewing machine has not been serviced within the last year, you may bring it into the store for a tune up (BEFORE class) and receive $10 off the regular tune up price. Please have a good working knowledge of how to use your machine prior to class. (If you are attending a basic class and are not familiar with your machine, please bring your instruction manual.) You may use a classroom machine, please call ahead to reserve one. Your machine should be able to sew through multiple layers of fabric and batting and have a zig zag stitch. * Size 14-18 Sharp/Jeans Sewing Machine Needle * Binding Clips * Applique or Open Toe Foot (one that will allow you to do a zig zag stitch * Thread (at least on spool) * 5-7 pre-wound bobbins (I used 7) * Extension table if you have one * Best Press or something similar * Stiletto or something similar * Large rubber band (for oval rug) * If you are piecing your strips of batting together, you may want to use "Batting Seam Tape" instead of stitching the strips together (do whatever you fell more comfortable doing) * Standard class supplies: pins, pencil, notebook, scissors, etc.
